This Week: Build Your Photo Safety Plan
This Week: Build Your Photo Safety Plan
Let’s talk safety. Not fire drills or seatbelts (though I’m a fan of both).
I’m talking about photo safety—because if your images are only stored in one place (like your phone or computer), they’re just one disaster away from disappearing forever.
I know, it’s a tough pill to swallow. But we’re not here for guilt—we’re here for progress.
This week is all about protecting your photo collection before something goes wrong. And believe me, it’s a lot easier to protect than to repair.
Are Your Memories Really Safe?
Let’s do a little checklist:
Are your printed photos still in their original photo lab envelopes?
Are your digital files scattered across five devices and three email accounts?
Do you have a backup of your photo library that you've tested recently?
If you're hesitating or nodding sheepishly right now—you're not alone. Most people think their photos are safe because they haven’t been lost yet. But hope is not a strategy.

The 3-2-1 Backup Rule (a.k.a. Your Photo Safety Net)
Here's the golden rule every photo organizer swears by:
✅ 3 copies of your photo collection
✅ 2 types of storage (like cloud + external hard drive)
✅ 1 copy stored off-site or online
Bonus tip: Test your backup regularly. A backup that doesn’t restore when you need it? That’s just a false sense of security in disguise.
This Week’s Quick Wins
Let’s get some small wins under your belt:
- Delete obvious duplicates
- Create a basic folder system (Start with YEAR > EVENT or PERSON)
- Add a few keywords or names to your favorite photos
- Order an acid-free storage box online and start collecting your loose prints
You’re not doing this alone. Thousands of people around the world are taking action with you this month. One folder. One photo. One memory at a time.
You’ve got this.
